With the journey starting in the 1960s, Penny Plain has now built a strong reputation amongst the older female market. Their range includes Tops, Trousers, Dresses and Outerwear.

Detailed planning is the key to integrations. We mapped out each field from Dynamics NAV to Magento, detailing out how and when the data will be passed and if any custom work needs to be carried out to manipulate the passing of data.

The Thought Process

Products: Products are not set up as configurable within Dynamics NAV. Instead, they are set up as individual products.

We used the common Style ID to identify which products should be grouped as configurable and automated this process when imported data from Dynamics NAV to Magento. This avoided the need for Penny Plain to make any wholesale changes to their product catalogue structure within Dynamics NAV.

To avoid overloading the server by instantly syncing data once product information is changed within Dynamics NAV, we set ‘updated’ markers for each product, thereby only syncing products periodically that have been updated.

Orders: We detailed out what order information needs to be posted to Dynamics NAV from Magento and how soon after the order is placed should details be posted to Dynamics NAV.

Returns & Exchanges: With Magento not having a sufficient function to process returns and exchanges, we customised an extension that allows Penny Plain to process returns & exchanges inline with their operations.
